Paying attention to “the probs” for one part of the continent requires effort. Now, try doing it for two separate areas. That’s my situation. What if we get a snow storm here? Or there? Or in between, in case a road trip gets added to “the sked”. My life, doubly complicated.

Strange climate moment. I awoke, suddenly; the gust of wind had me wondering if we’d just had a tiny tremor. By the time I went downstairs, the anemometer showed a misleading 0 (as in zero. Dead calm). Turns out that a heavy snowfall had frozen things temporarily, although another gust shook the mechanics enough that we were back into recording mode shortly after. A downtime of eleven hours, according to the stats page. Enough snow came down to break one shovel, which means that winter may be here for the next few months.

Just like every other time: the first real snowfall of the year sends local drivers into a tailspin. You know folks, that provincial law requiring snow tires to be installed before mid-December is designed to keep you safe until global warming is completely irreversible. Yes, my tires are on. Yea, I’m a little smug about that.

After putting a couple of hours into online reading, the geothermal choice still makes sense (and saves cents). I only wish that I had more hands-on experience. This is going to be a black box solution, scheduled to come online just as thermometer drops outside. Little time for breaking in or fine tuning or whatever the proper expression happens to be.

Not exactly a “Frantic Friday” around the office, even with a long weekend about to begin. Most of the predicted players were in place. No emergencies on the work list. In fact, my two big jobs of the morning included rep lugging a loose printer cable and storing away an extra telephone. In a word, yawn!

Some days bring change. Of all sorts. For example, today I put away my winter parka and returned to trusty Goretex. The impending rains might have had something to do with that choice, but the thermometer did make it into double digit territory for the first time in a long time.

Under cover of darkness, in driving snow. Randy on the radio, counting through songs based on the letters of the alphabet. So much good music, along the way. Turn here, and park. Burger stop. A&W, just because. That’s Saturday without a care.

Call it preparation. Call it vicarious. I’m keeping an eye on “the East Coast”, where the weather has turned decidedly non-seasonal. Or if you will, March going out like a lion.

Every once in a while, I have to stop and wonder. Why? Not “why do I wonder”, just to be clear.
When I see those presentations on the news, offering to let me taste special tidbits by renowned chefs, why do I wonder if the stuff tastes OK? I mean, although I sometimes manage to make stuff I don’t like (in retrospect), a chef would never do that. Right? Things involving smoked sturgeon and oddball pickles on a bizarre biscuit; how could I go wrong?

Some things are not meant to be understood. For example; magic. Not the stuff of myth and legend. The stuff of a pack of cards and an ability to trick the rest of us.
