Watching weather, as usual

posted in Wx |

Call it preparation. Call it vicarious. I’m keeping an eye on “the East Coast”, where the weather has turned decidedly non-seasonal. Or if you will, March going out like a lion.

Here, we’re ready for spring. Enough with the cold, and the snow. But on the coast, they’re doing it with panache. Pretty much everything closed, everywhere. Forget taking the boat, or the bridge. Forget the safety of plowed roads. Shutdown. Even the bread aisle was empty by suppertime, yesterday. That’s the way it works.

I checked out the probs for the Rock. In the area around Wreckhouse, the obs at suppertime showed winds of 138 kph, gusting to 183 kph. Worth mentioning, for those of you who figure that anything over a gentle breeze is excessive. Go ahead, stuck your head out the window at 60, and then triple it. Clears the sinuses.

Of course, I’m still a year away from “good times in the Maritimes”, but the promise of what is to come gets my weather interest all twitchy. Will the anemometer stand up to that sort of test? We shall see.

I actually found some worthwhile content on Twitter this afternoon. I’m not much of a follower (or leader) when it comes to the app that would rule the world, but some people take the time to post pics and give on the ground reports. That’s good.

Talking to some friends about various gear (photo, audio, computing). The gear part is easy; where things bog down is when you want a carrying case. Go ahead. Say Pelican. Hide your wallet…
