Just spotted a photo of the second house I ever visited. My grandparents, if that helps. Anyhow, the picture was in a Twitter feed, showing off the new scenery on the Island; election ick. I’m sure my grampie would never have allowed such things to be tacked onto the outside wall of his house, way back when.

As a fan of the political process, I’m tingling all over. I just watched the writ dropping! Gravity being what it is (whatever it is), things moved from high to low rapidly. The Island will have a muddy season, whether or not there’s a melting of the snows.

For all those who wish that politicians would keep their promises: be careful what you wish for. The Supreme Court has agreed that the long gun registry data (which we were told, over and over, cost AT LEAST a billion dollars) will be erased. Completely. Maybe today. The king prime minister promised his friends and followers that he would get rid of the hated symbol of oppression. One province appealed that there might still be something of use in the files, but the leader doesn’t agree. Now, that province will have to recollect the data. You see, the registry isn’t a bad thing. However, a promise is a promise. (Facepalm inserted here).

Today, the sibilant call of the shredder. Some sort of sprint ritual, perhaps, or a nod to carrying less away from here, but many (many) old receipts and other assorted sheets of personalized print were fed to the “jaws” before shipment to the incinerator. Double assurance. Which reminds me; check the blue bin for badly sorted bags of confetti.

Let the play begin. A certain senator is about to face the courts. The crimes matter, but not nearly so much as the players involved. You see, the senator, who may or may not be a legal Islander, has decided that he won’t be “thrown under the bus”, or “washed overboard by a rogue wave”. He has requested that some friends in high places shall appear, in his defence.

Based on several news stories, repeated commercials and an easy-to-locate website, it seems that I’m part of a group that will be richer than before. Relatively. A class action suit involving Canadians that purchased devices containing computer memory some years ago has come back with an award. As a result, we’re all getting $20 in the mail. From where I sit, it might be hard to find a Canadian that doesn’t qualify.

The second of my four quizzes is behind me. Aced it. The course means little to the rest of the world, but getting things right beats getting things wrong. Right?

Sometimes, they just get it right. I know, an undefined pronoun (or two). Work through… On TV, tonight, I’ll get to see the sixth episode of a miniseries based on The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill. Which, for the record, I’ve read and found worth recommending to others. The transition from ink to screen (old school definition, here) is often awkward; not this time around. With the wonders of the PVR, this one might merit a rewatch.

Let me begin with a wagging finger and a frown. To the local gasoline outlets, who saw fit to raise prices by thirteen cents per litre today, even as the price of crude continues to spiral down. You are “all about that greed”!

Today, more boxes were filled. I’m working with things that have (only) intrinsic value, but each piece requires reflection.
