Saturday, and the Vanier Cup has been awarded. With one point more than the opposition, a crucial kick was knocked down in the final few minutes. Keep the game close and in your favour, and the trophy will follow. Until next season…

Let’s get it out of the way, quickly. This is a big day in university football. The Carabins beat the Bisons, in a reasonably close/balanced match. Thankfully, Twitter follows everything in the world (no matter how trivial), and the game between Mt.A and McMaster is almost over. The sacks against the Mt. A quarterback were enough that several twits pointed out that the team resides in Sackville. Enough.

Another playoff round is underway, in Canadian university football. Laval whupped one of the lesser pretendants to the crown this afternoon, while another moved into the forecourt. Next week, things get serious.

Oh, the things we imagine… watching the celebrations on the Hill, for Canada Day. On the news cutaway, a tornado warning for the area just to the north of the city. Guess I’ll never know.

It’s over. The best poster I’ve spotted mentions that all-Canadian term ‘Double Double’. And now we can return to regularly scheduled broadcasts.

Join me in a cheer for Island Gold! Ms Moyse and her teammate “drove ‘er”, at speeds approaching 130km around and up and down a serpentine, and the goal became golden. If only for one moment, the Olympics belong to the rest of us who share a love for place.

Sorry, I don’t know that individual. My new phrase to respond to the cheering section at work, who lean into the cubicle to tell me how so and so just won a medal. Really. I haven’t paid attention to people falling down hills, or skating in circles, or any of the other “winter sports”. My attention is fixed on getting me through another winter, without injury. A gold medal for my effort would be fun, probably; I just don’t expect one.
