Catch the moving articles

posted in computing, sports |

Since this blog is part of my life record, let me add another detail. In response to my carefully worded letter from two mornings back, the HR director sent me a carefully worded letter thanking me for my long years of service and wishing me the best in my future. That’s how it works. My retirement is now a question of weeks and paperwork.

Today was moving day for one department. Out with the old furniture, and in with the new. I had three different chances to unplug and carry; the final one took only five minutes, ‘cuz that’s all the time I had. The lads with the trollies were already moving dead desks out, and if I hadn’t grabbed my armloads, gravity would have. Doesn’t anyone believe in planning these precious moments beforehand?

The sign display guy did stop back, early this morning, to collect his tools and computer. He promised to return during the afternoon. Broken promises abound, in the technical world. I’m indifferent.

And then there was the rain. Yet another day of damp hair and careful jumps over puddles. My bus didn’t come, this afternoon; I took another. That requires a longer day, but again… I’m indifferent.

I’m not watching people run after a ball, but some relatives are yelling loud enough (in virtual terms) that I have to pay attention. Something about Spain (the predicted winner) getting whipped by the Netherlands team. Just for the record. We’re a long way from the “carry that giant cup off the field while people cheer” chapter.
