Spectator sports

posted in environment, politics, sports |

Wow! An evening as a spectator, with lots of conflict going on. I’m not much of a TV sports fan, but sometimes you have to indulge.

And with that, let’s look at the choices. March Madness has begun, wherein we get to watch those who can jump play against those who can jump. The whole point is to get noticed by the scouting class. After all; why go to university if it doesn’t lead to a lucrative career.

In town, the Red Bull Crashed Ice has started. I watched it on the webcam, and I watched it on the news. Tomorrow morning, my bus will pick me up, right at the bottom of the chute. Even the news host got his game face on this evening, although he didn’t jump the gap. Insurance rules, probably. He explained the process though. Even if you are an experienced skater, you don’t usually have to go downhill.

The World’s (in curling) are on. The Homan rink is in the right place at the right time, and look just as calm as they did during the Scotties. I’ll probably hang out here, by choice, because the alternative is the debate, about to start at the top of the hour.

Political bloodsport. Put them in hexagonal cage… Instead, we have a chance to listen to slanted rhetoric and thinly veiled insults. Like I said: blood sport. Tomorrow, the newspaper will analyze the whole thing again, just because. I might watch a bit, but the curling is so much more fun.
