Who won?

posted in sports, technology |

Sorry, I don’t know that individual. My new phrase to respond to the cheering section at work, who lean into the cubicle to tell me how so and so just won a medal. Really. I haven’t paid attention to people falling down hills, or skating in circles, or any of the other “winter sports”. My attention is fixed on getting me through another winter, without injury. A gold medal for my effort would be fun, probably; I just don’t expect one.

I’ll leave the TV on some neutral station for the next couple of weeks. Other things to do. Right now, I’m caught up in the calculation of reverb times, and I wish I had paid attention in physics class, back when it was expected of me. Seriously; the more I learn about sound production, the more I feel like an explorer on a new (and exciting) world. So much to take in. Although I don’t expect a high mark in the course, much less a medal, there’s a certain intellectual delight involved. Each course has been directing me, and although I can’t discern the forest for the trees, my first real experiments are going to be much more focused.

Someone sent me a link to a YouTube channel, and I’d like to share it. Check out the various clips available by two lawyers from Utah, available here: mikemasse.com/song-list. I would love to have that much talent (and technique) some day. Yes, practice would help. The quality of the recordings, as sampled in my headphones, leaves me in awe.
