The simplest option

A previous booking of our communal space, by a local community group, left me with few options. I took the simplest one; loaded the two dogs into the car and went for a long ride in the country. Mind you, that’s easy to do, given where we live.

Proud proclamation on the box

On my own for supper. The others are off to a decent restaurant and won’t be back in time to share. I’m able to prepare the finest that my freezer has to offer: a baker’s dozen of wings (not just any wings; the box proclaims proudly that these are “Canadian Farm Raised”.)

(They) Plugged in the extension cord today

Our public utility had a big moment today; they plugged in the new extension cord, and my lights didn’t even flicker. At least, I don’t think so. I try to keep lights turned off during the day, given the price of grid electricity. 180MW, which means that there wasn’t a single cord in stock at Canny Tire that would have sufficed.

Distractions required

Keeping the houseful of people distracted requires a lot of (my) resources. That quarter moon with starry background? Not enough. Multiple movies on multiple screens? Barely. Without cellphones, the world would slow, wobble, halt.

Stream found on Periscope

Day two of “max crowd”; we had enough of everything to get through the morning, and the beach was held in reserve for the afternoon. Funny how a house can go from full to reserve in a matter of minutes. I had no urge to sit in the sand for the afternoon, so they brought home photos of the infrastructure efforts.

The umbrella as a water collector

Having a few more people in the house doesn’t change much. Still have to get up in the morning, perform libations, eat. Perhaps a touch of scheduling (although with three separate bathrooms, even that goes by smoothly). No, it’s more getting used to seeing extra faces in what is normally a house for two-and-a-dog. That’s the difference; the second dog!

Under the pressure of visitors

A proud moment: I cleaned up my work table today. The pressure of visitors (the kids) was enough to push me into action, and now I can actually see my transceivers. Doesn’t mean any increase in activity (causation/correlation, again), but the possibility exists. Actually fun to find things that were lost in the haze. Maze. Whatever.

I don’t learn much every day

I don’t acquire new skills every day. That would be exhausting, after all; I had my big rush back when learning to walk was considered as “new and improved”. No, I muddle along, picking up little bits of knowledge from time to time, but life isn’t as intense as it was back when my world revolved around family and feeding time.

Finding the pieces of my puzzle

Under spattering skies, I was off to buy gas this morning. Mind you, the container isn’t large, but it only takes about a minute to “fill ‘er up”. The autostop feature on today’s pumps is convenient.

Exotic cuisine and statistics

Vacations are, by design, short and meant to be lived to the fullest. Hence, the kid and I went out to eat, again this evening. Exotic cuisine: donairs, prepared by a young lady who was fixated on getting a telephone number to contact us when our order was ready. I explained that such a measure was unnecessary, and so she used her own. Forms must be completed, in that wage bracket.
