Pay your own freight

The local newspaper carried one of those wire photos that give one pause. Nothing involving mass deaths, or natural disasters, or cute animals. Rather, a group photo with a young man, a young woman and a famous athlete. Arm on shoulder, side by each. And the explanation that a whole nation of empire builders are in a tizzy because one of “their family” had come into contact with a commoner. Someone owes someone an apology…

Regrind the ground

Park the GTO, Jake. Other things to get done. Seriously, after six seasons, ROD has ended. With the content packed into the final five minutes, I’m still a bit out of breath. Good work!

Faster foods and virtual wandering

When TV stations are pushing their NYE guest list a full three weeks early, they may be tired of this year. Me, not so much. Still have a few things remaining on my “get ‘er done” work list.

The rewards of profligate spending

Turns out  that crime DOES pay, at least if your job title is regal enough. The former (small mercy) lieutenant governor has decided to plead guilty to fraud charges after a half-decade of “We are not amused” defense of profligate spending. She is willing to repay almost $310K to the public purse; pity that the amount is short of the $700K considered to be MIA.

Substitution of sandwiches

I sense a great divide between the advertised and the available. That is, at my local sandwich emporium. Often, my role in an impromptu feast is to sally forth and purchase the denrée. Carefully, after consultation with all involved, a list is prepared. From the website, of course. In the local language, to avoid confusion.

Not a minute wasted

Some day, I may look back and wish I’d done more. That old “Not a minute to waste, eh!” model of existence. Or maybe not; after all, a warm clean bed is its own reward. Today, I did some laundry. Full stop.

Stealthy siding

The difficulty with turning a fallow field into a house location is that it isn’t anywhere. In terms of society and commerce, at least. For the last couple of months, the norm has been to say we will live next door to so-and-so (for those in the know). Or that we’re located a certain time-distance calculation past a landmark (pick the lighthouse or the fire hall). All that changed, about a day ago, when we received an email revealing the civic address.

Back to reality

In the background, our newest gadget is busily churning. Can’t tell you much more, yet, but if the illustrations hold true we should have some warm bread for bed. Magical.

Sorting at the site

Hard beds and cold rooms remind me of an earlier time. To revisit the uncomfortable, at my age, and be expected to pay for the privilege… Sorry, but I’m moving along.

Marvelled at the mounds

Even a solid (sic) mattress won’t keep the tired among us from sleeping. However, coffee will be a requirement, at the earliest instance. Without sounding like a mAd Man, the new Timmy’s dark black is actually OK, once cooled below the danger point. And with my stomach acid restored to a functional level, we were off to sign the papers.
