In the “no sense planning” category: tonight’s supper effort. An outstanding pot of fajita filler, with just the right consistency to my sauce (less is more). Everything ready on schedule, despite distractions. And then, just me at the table. The others were “madly off in all directions”, as they say on the radio.

Today, I learned that my home has a civic address. However, until I pony up $45 plus applicable taxes, followed by a session with a sledge hammer, it will remain unknown to anyone else. So, I called the sign shop, but no order will be filled until after the holidays.

Faced with a shortage of milk, I opened the local supermarket this morning. Of course, my brand of milk was out of stock, but there were other needs at home. Shopped for a bit and the lad with the super-pallet clued in that an empty cooler did nothing for sales. Saved.

What if you received some advice? From a fortune stick, or one of those odd cookies that they serve with rice and ribs. Or while flipping idly through a self-help manual. Something like “Do something different”. What would you choose as your next move?

There’s something about a well-built home. After all, unless you are in to “shanty” decor, the charm of properly designed and engineered walls and floors and windows and doors is sublime. And, after reading the House book by Tracy Kidder (twice) I have an idea about what I shouldn’t do. Top of the list: lowball the budget.
