Enough of today has passed that I can make a stab at a recap. There was a leisurely trip to the supermarket, where I found the base ingredients for a good feed of ribs. Then, a leisurely session of “low and slow” cooking, while I watched another easy win by the local university football team. Later, a leisurely meal of my own effort.

As near as I can tell, there’s only one chance (in a lifetime) for today’s question and paired response. Here we go.

True story. Two guys are in queue at a local burger joint. Make it all the way to the counter, when their register closes, leaving one other open. The one with a newly formed queue of a school bus load of hungry farm workers.

After checking on Twitter, I went into this afternoon prepared to download and upgrade (in that order). The appointed hour approached, and a full six minutes early I hit the site. Ready, set, start. Initial estimate “five minutes”. As the clock hand traversed the zenith, the estimate readjusted…

Finally made first line on the agenda for a staff meeting. Not that I ever lusted after that post position; it actually took me by surprise. Seems that I won’t have to work, after this week. No lottery win, though. Rather, a future, uncertain.

Made sense to go and get groceries before the football telecast started. Would have made more sense to go to a store that wasn’t celebrating… I never did find out what. More free food than ever before, an inflatable play park and a live radio station in the parking lot next to the oversize hot dog stand. A rock band playing in what normally serves as seating for the food court (the one rendered unnecessary by all the free food in the departments). And the usual cart pilots without any sense of direction. Spinning in the aisles, blocking progress. I remained polite.

Tough night. No sleep possible. Due to the “nose balloon”, a full congestion triggered a minor panic attack: insufficient air intake in any other position than full vertical. And so I walked the floor for the whole night. For a new baby, one makes such a compromise. For a bloody nose, not so much.

Some days don’t go as scheduled. Detours. Roads less travelled. When I climbed out of bed this morning, I could not have forecast the way my evening would go. Even when there was a warning sign.
