The leak restudied
Tough night. No sleep possible. Due to the “nose balloon”, a full congestion triggered a minor panic attack: insufficient air intake in any other position than full vertical. And so I walked the floor for the whole night. For a new baby, one makes such a compromise. For a bloody nose, not so much.
Dawn brought new resolve. No waiting twenty-four hours for a medical review. We changed hospitals. Who cares if it takes a few muniutes to complete the paperwork for a new establishment. Minor detail, particularly when you know the answers to the questions on the scripted list.
For those of us on the outside, especially when resident in a smaller place with only one choice, we assume (too much). A hospital is comprised of a location and a team. Just like pro sports. Some teams are stronger, and this morning I met with a star quarterback. He knew noses. Inside, especially. Out with the horrible balloon and in with proper tools
There. The funny nose pliers have a proper name, and come in multiple sizes. They permit the surgeon to insert a probe that cauterizes a broken vessel, bringing relief. Only relief. I can breathe again (and I proved it by sleeping all afternoon.
We almost made it out of the hospital. Managed to clear the tollgate before receiving a telephoned summons to come back for a final inspection and a “jump the line” card should I re-leak. Cool!
And now I need to recalculate my getaway date from work. Today’s absence was “motivated”. It still needs to be “financed”. You can’t pay in blood.
