Save a million and keep the cheap

Things I never had the chance to learn, before today. Let’s see: Breakfasts are the best business. People will steal your pancake recipe. Coffee goes well with anything in the morning. All of this, after five minutes with Cora (the breakfast lady).

Consideration of a soaking sink

Even in the quiet times (others call them weekends), I find myself up for early coffee. And a bagel, if there are any left. And early TV. Not much on a Saturday morning, once you get past the age of reason. No matter.

Faced with a forgotten password

Faced with a forgotten password, my friend Google showed me the back door. I have a love/hate relationship with products from Apple. Goes back, possibly, to a long ago attempt to run a program written in some version of Apple Basic, on a II belonging to the math department. Spent an afternoon, only to have someone point out that there were several varieties of the language. I didn’t have the necessary one. But that was just the seed.

Watching others disassemble the machine, not the code

More snow overnight. No longer any need to prefix that with “new”. Only the dog hides a mood of dismay.

A CD for a cutting edge

Perhaps I wasn’t paying attention, or it may have something to do with Important Capitalization. According to the page I read (several times) over at Microsoft, unless I upgrade Windows 8.1 with the Windows 8.1 Update I will not be able to update with other upgrades after the next Patch Tuesday. So far, I’m unclear about what I’m supposed to do, because the Update is not available on the update page.

Tear it down, or …

While watching an older movie (that means the colour palette goes from black to white), I learned that cars in the period before my birth were, well, larger. How else can I account for a vehicle with three people in the back seat, and three more in the front? And no seat belts, ever. Make my SUV look shrunken.

One way to provide a nature reserve

Let the record show that snow continues to fall. With the record, please append that I am not performing a “happy dance”. Meanwhile, rivers in the area are either flooding or intending to. Exception: somewhere in the Ancienne-Lorette area, where the mayor has installed some large sandbags. The other mayor is now in a frenzy.

A familiar reboot sequence

Maintenance for the new decade. That’s where you remove the hard drive from your laptop and swap in the other one. The one containing an image file of Win 8; not ready to commit to the new world, but unwilling to be deprived of the updates that could disappear. Seriously. Not highly productive behavior.
