Temporary unexplained failure to load
Anyone who tried to access this site over the last few hours may have been less than impressed by the single blank page that came back. That includes me.
This site is technically co-hosted, which means that I share cheap space (and bandwidth) with many others. We install our own software, if we want (meaning WordPress) and then we hope for serenity. As in “grant me the serenity”. When it works (and it usually does), one can be rather matter-of-fact. When it doesn’t, like today, another mood takes over.
I work with webservers. I understand what is expected. I have a “tool kit” of strategies to try. And so, I did. Took a backup of my data. Reinstalled the executable. Disabled plugins. Tried connecting via port 443 (which worked) and port 80 (which didn’t). And then went back to my normal job, with a firm intention to “go back and solve things”, come evening.
When it worked. In other words, this was an unexplained temporary failure to function. And I may never know what actually happened.
It’s going to rain, over the weekend. And it’s going to flood, downhill from here. Happens every year. Please, could someone let the “wet feet gang” know that they can plan ahead for the end of winter. Even if the date isn’t fixed (much like elections). Get some sandbags filled. Put the basement boxes on stilts. Stop depending on the public purse and the insurance industry to bail you (and your new found swimming pools) out. After a century or more, the show gets really lame.
