No I’m intrigued. I received a lovely email from the local transit company, this morning. A request to complete a customer satisfaction survey. Not too strenuous; to be handled while doing a whole slew of other things (I multitask by nature). And upon completion, there was a second request. Would I mind sharing my contact information, so that I could (possibly) become a “mystery shopper”.

Another minor skirmish in the city council insult games. The “commercial street” near my office is not expanding. Normal for one side, a crisis for the other. Let’s be clear; there isn’t a lot of available land in the area for new residents or commerces, unless the historically vast “domaines” held by religious communities for the last four centuries are auctioned off.

Thankfully, the madness will now end. A major North American nation has officially banned the naming of children with the moniker “Facebook”. Nothing more to add.

Here we are. Half a century after my first contact with math as a useful tool, and I’m still depending on the calculation abilities of the Internet. Remember those word problems that kept one challenged intellectually in Grade Four? Stuff like “What is the volume of a cylinder, measuring three inches in diameter and six feet in length?? No need to convert this to metric; the volume is a constant. Or a variable. That math class was a long time ago.

Finally. Even though the snowfall was light, hardly an impediment to transport, minds better placed than mine decided that it was time to take a break. By 06h05, the school board website had a notice up, I’d received my phone call as part of a chain, and there was a directed email. Our presence would not be required in the office. To be fair, snow continued to fall during the dy, and without taking a a trip on the open highway, I can’t speak to the potential for danger. I did use the time well, managing to complete the week’s efforts in the two online courses. And now, with the day closing, I am ready for the usual relaxation of the weekend.

In the (modern) historical context, getting on the cover of Rolling Stone has been something to sing about. Hey, one group based their career (sic) on just that. Which is why the emotional overload of a Toronto actor/rapper who got “bumped” this week so that the magazine could pay tribute to the passing of an Oscar-winning actor is, simply, disingenuous. Grow up, duck!

I am unclear on whether the addition of a fruit or a tree is necessary to “grow” an orchard. In the Apple world, it just requires adding a new device. And another one. And another one. Appears that you “can’t just own one”, when you enter the enclosed garden.

A cartoon comes to mind; the wily coyote runs off the edge of a cliff and realizes that something is wrong. Or imagine an intrepid woodcutter, deftly chopping off the branch where he is seated. In the IT (computers for the rest of you), it’s classed as erasing your boot sector.

Sorry, I don’t know that individual. My new phrase to respond to the cheering section at work, who lean into the cubicle to tell me how so and so just won a medal. Really. I haven’t paid attention to people falling down hills, or skating in circles, or any of the other “winter sports”. My attention is fixed on getting me through another winter, without injury. A gold medal for my effort would be fun, probably; I just don’t expect one.

The newspaper ad caught my eye, and then the thought processes started into high gear. Next time around, do we want to put an ordinary bed in the extra bedroom, or do we want something more utilitarian. Say, a pair of bunk beds? Or a Murphy bed, leaving the floor space free (most of the time). Do companies deliver, outside of the metropolitan magnet area? Is the cost comparable?
