Down where the darkness and the heat mask treasure

Instead of changing my laptop, I’ve changed the drive. One of them, anyways. I found that there just wasn’t enough space available in my configuration. Funny how that works.

Chilly enough for chili

My technique has been tested over a period of years. Before the weather gets chilly, make a big batch of chili. There. Make a bumper sticker, if you want.

Simplified choice

I shopped and studied and considered the possibilities. In the end, the choice wasn’t mine to make. Not my car; not my choice. We now own a new set of winter tires. The mag wheels will be delivered in a couple or three weeks, and at that point the whole thing will be married and mounted and sent off to see the world. $1500. Slightly over budget, but the convenience of the box store system won out.

The mystery of tire and wheel sizes

Remember how, back in grade school, you’d get to have a new friend? Except, since we’re all born with a limited number of “friend spots”, you’d have to let an old one go? No parallel with FB, where some people accumulate new friends the way my sock drawer draws pennies, but I digress. Turns out that the mayor of our city works exactly the same way. The wood kids didn’t have a chance, when the steel kids came into the neighbourhood.

What makes a theme into a theme?

Just caught the new Adele song, that’s destined as a Bond theme. How does that work. There was no doubt; this is a valid Bond number, and that would mean that someone wrote the music (and lyrics, I suppose) with one goal – inclusion on the next Bond Gold Themes album. Does this mean that there is a style? Why didn’t I learn about it, back in music history class?

My pie is on back order

Among  the things I learned today: one of the money guys from “Dragons’s Den” used to be a Mountie. And a wrestler. Funny how we move from job to job, eh what? That eh is Canadian (eh).

How about a pie-based PBX?

Go to work, in the rain. Come home from work, in the rain. Around this time of the season, snow starts to seem like a really good alternative to the urban transit user. Yes, the bus is on time. So am I. The time from the house to the stop is invariable. Did I mention that I hate umbrellas?

Hockey in reruns

Feeling self-satisfied. Much more, there’ll be photos. After all, how else to feel, after a complete wash, fold, hang, shelf, store of the existing wardrobe, along with a run to the dumpster with stuff that no longer fits my exacting standards. Go ahead, snicker. There is rare and then there is REALLY RARE.

First fall of the winter

This day started much too early. Half way through the night, the dog wanted company, to facilitate repeated visits outside. I tried to help, then I tried to ignore, but the ante continued to rise. Grass is not a good source of dietary anything for the canine class, and cleaning belly juice three hours before dawn is just yucky. Finally, I gave up on sleep and waited for the arrival of the paper guy. Oh, and I started the pool reversal process, under cover of darkness. The neighbour in his truck seemed bemused.

Walls were heavy, and wallbuilders were hearty lads

Left the house this morning with the phone battery showing 18%. Little matter, given that I don’t actually talk on the phone, but the bit of having ‘net available where’ere I go has proved to be a diversion during otherwise boring bus travel. However, the phone doesn’t fade to zero before saying goodbye; by the time I hit the centre of town, things had dropped into the red zone, and powering down was the only option.
