He’ll call you out!

Who knew that municipal politics would provide years of ringside entertainment? For all his rough spots, the current mayor loves to interact with the public. In fact, the newscast from yesterday’s council meeting was strangely akin to a tag team match, or an alley altercation. I wonder what the man did before getting rich and forcing his will on an entire metropolis?

Anticipating the need to hydrate

It’s Tuesday. What should I fixate on for today?

My water bottle is back in my pack. After a winter (and spring) of not needing to hydrate during the long ride home, the warning is out. Hot weather, only hours away. When the sweat starts, I’ll be ready with some filtered tap water (the cooler is right outside my cubicle). Anywhere: at the bus stop, on the bus, during the six minute walk through the neighbourhood. Go ahead, Gaia. Hit me with your best shot!

The parent gene

Some guy races down that long hill in Les Eboulements, on a trumped up skateboard. The usual reason: seeking a world record. My first reaction was to call son #1 and suggest he watch. My second reaction (less than a second later) was to call son #1 and distract him from watching TV. It’s the parent gene.

Progress and sharp rebuking barking

In communion with (or in spite of) the seasonably warm day, a few things are now better than before. If I manage to sleep tonight (reference the aforementioned temperature), I will probably dream with a smile.

All that remains is a slow refill

Sometimes, the answer will be revealed in a dream. In my case, I woke earlier than usual, with the clear idea that my problem with pool pumping would be solved when I found the leak. Not water; I would have already covered that one. In this case, it was a tiny flaw in my pipe wrapping experiment. Just enough space for air to mix with the water flow. Outside, with the sun barely over the horizon, the neighbourhood was quiet enough for me to hear the aspiration. Hence, the inspiration.

Still waters run deep (still)

As darkness settles in, my toes are tingling. It might have something to do with my standing in a mud puddle, bare feet, for the last few hours. Still trying to move water from there to the other there, without use of magic or a bucket brigade. Might need to resort to that measure tomorrow morning. The pool liner people are still scheduled for the morning, and the water is supposed to be gone. I wonder how many rolls of super absorbent [fill in the brand name here] paper towels might be required?

Slow drain forecast

There are limits. I don’t like wet feet, or gunk from the bottom of still water. In search of a fresh fish dinner I might have an interest, but when it comes to emptying the pool… strike out the, replace with that… there; feels better.

Bailing is not an option

My decision to replace the weather station battery last evening was timely. If I had neglected my duty for another day, I’d have no record of today’s rainfall (other than the memory of spending the morning at work, damp). But it no longer matters; the sun has returned. For the next few days, the probs are positive, and the pool repair team now forecasts a visit on the weekend. Before then, I have to remove about 4 kilogallons (an alternate measurement to the usual litres).

The catalyst in the process

Certain processes require a catalyst. At least, that’s what I’ve gleaned from my contact with the industrial world over the decades. We forget that the same rules play out in life. Take my goal of clearing the basement. I’m willing, I’m able, I’m… lazy. There; said it. Now to the catalyst part.

Circles on the calendar, for some

Guess the networks have decided that a hockey game is too much competition. As a sign of submission, there are some really bad movies on right now.
