The big boat will sail no more

In the middle of the shortest day of the year, and if I could find the yuk-yuk that forced this one on the rest of us, I’d get all crazy with a big stick. Just so you know. I don’t appreciate the idea of playing with the regular order of things. That’s why one clock is left on UTC (the one beside the radio gear). An anchor is a sea of chronological disarray.

Luring your prey

Pardon me for being relatively naive. I thought that images like the one below were a nature study; as in, natural. Not so fast. Look again.

Back at the bottom of the hill

(I thought I was) doing so well, until the dents in the bottom of the new red Thermos were noticed. Now, I’m back at the bottom of the hill, with another long climb ahead. Whoever said mountaineering was fun was just wrong.

Focus my attention

Learned this years ago: deadlines focus my attention. Under pressure, I’m more effective. There, my secret is out.

Challenged to be frozen and happy

If you’ve ever wondered why group arm wrestling hasn’t caught on as a sport, just watch the political race down south. Super Tuesday is over, and all four of the contenders (down from an incredible eleven) have vowed to carry on. No winner, no loser. Keeps the tension high while making sure that the Repubs will go on to 2016 looking for a way to win. Politics for the rest of us.

Showing off the expensive sheet metal

As with so many other facets of the economy, the annual Auto Show isn’t meant for me. However, I do watch the local news, and I’m now an informed consumer. No need to head on over to know what’s on display.

Steam punk for the modern man

Consider this as a resolution. I’m going to opt for higher thread counts in my sheets. Didn’t realize what a difference a little comfort makes in life. That, and a hot tub are high on my list of things to “get”, after our weekend away. For the record, we finished with a wonderful breakfast before leaving the Manoir du Lac William today.

In full view

Today was the designated day for being a tourist in a winter paradise. Each one to profit as he sees fit. I’m no longer willing to “do” things just because I can, so instead of putting on my skates and checking out the lake surface, I watched. From the safety of the room, it looked like great fun.

A change of scenery

In a moment of madness, we left the house and drove into the hills. With some new snow and a change of scenery, you can do much for your own mental wellness. That’s why we call it the getaway.

Accessorize everything

It’s all about the accessories. The simple truth of modern retailing. Lots of proof.

Tonight, we decided to visit the new kid on the block (locally). The Siamese twin of our main electronics box store (Future Shop) came to the city back at summer’s end; it took until now to find an excuse to cross town and see what’s goin’ on, at Best Buy.
