A change of scenery
In a moment of madness, we left the house and drove into the hills. With some new snow and a change of scenery, you can do much for your own mental wellness. That’s why we call it the getaway.
Locally, schools are out for the March break. Staff too. I decided to push the envelope and take an extra day from my bank of accumulated time. Play follow the leader. And so here we are, in an upscale hotel beside a frozen lake. We’ve put several hours of supper behind us, and the whirlpool bath is filling.
Methinks I want one of those in the next house. Has to be more practical than the metal cube I’ve stood in for a quarter of a century. The cost; we’ll deal with that when the time comes to settle the pile of bills.
Back to supper, if I might. A shrimp in a tasty salad. A soup made from asparagus and leeks, thick enough to please. A supper that involved deer (although next time I want a better knife). Vegetables in variety with flavour. A chocolate cheese cake that made me forget I’d ever heard of a season called Lent. The only bump in the roadway – very ordinary coffee. Next time, I’ll prepare my Thermos, and explain that it’s for medical reasons.
We’re here for a couple of nights, in keeping with the idea of a break in routine, so I’ve packed light. This is my first time posting with the Playbook and a Bluetooth keyboard. The app I installed is doing the job, but I’ll have to wait and see how things look once published.
