Waiting for the tide

We’ll be sailing with the tides. Oh, the imagery. Oh, the history. Oh, the reality, for those that live in maritime regions. The moon is really the one in control of transportation, at least where water is in play. Consider the fate of the Fundy fisher.

Unpredictable elections and weather

Four evenings of the annual audition ordeal have passed. Last week, we had some useful input from the guest judges (Posh and Mary J Blige) but this week was a placeholder effort. I mean, come on. Shania Twain gave back polite platitudes to the Chicago supplicants, and Kristin Chenoweth (who?) didn’t even stay for the second segment of tonight’s effort from Orlando. Yawn.

Not quite a rolling stone

The Masters of Mayhem, AKA the Mythbusters team, keep me coming back for more. No (reasonable) story is too big for their budget, as long as it involves something coming apart, fast. This afternoon, the show simply left me wanting to go and play in my basement.

Good, better, best, etc.

While you’re up, could you check the thermostat? I worry that we’re overheating the back yard and beyond. Unseasonable weather and all that; already the middle-past of the month and we haven’t had a serious blast from winter. My parka is still “parked”.

A quest for a fleece

I didn’t have many occasions to go to the movies when I was young. Only one theatre in town, a limited selection of blockbusters on their single screen, no money. All the right reasons. One title managed to stay in the brain, and tonight it came back.

Batteries for my backup

The queue was short, the needle was long and the result was simple. One less chance of catching the flu this year. My second variety of vaccination has been adminstered and I’m ready to face the next sniffling soul that crosses my path.

Oh woe, my pan is no more

I wonder who is going to catch the last fish.

Tonight, my television took me down onto (and into) the Red Sea, a marvelous place. Full of eye candy, full of life. Some interesting ideas; the group that are reseeding coral reefs, using a technique that remind me of potato planting. The retraining of fishermen to care for a marine park. The sad tale of the group from Yemen, who make their daily bread by setting nets, in hope of capturing sharks for the finning market of the far East.

Physician, heal thyself

Two good days of tech support. Two days with problems removed from the list that awaits. Two days that would have been impossible without my good friend Google.

Who sat in the next chair?

Woke up this morning, and you were on my mind. Whew! Not only is that one a perfect earworm for Wednesday, but it reflects how my day began.

The train has left the station

Two hours in to the new season and I feel better already. Nine thousand hopefuls in Boston, and some actually got through. The train has left the station.
