Unpredictable elections and weather

posted in Idol, politics, Wx |

Four evenings of the annual audition ordeal have passed. Last week, we had some useful input from the guest judges (Posh and Mary J Blige) but this week was a placeholder effort. I mean, come on. Shania Twain gave back polite platitudes to the Chicago supplicants, and Kristin Chenoweth (who?) didn’t even stay for the second segment of tonight’s effort from Orlando. Yawn.

Politics is another odd show. Don’t count on the idols here, and don’t celebrate a given election until after (the Bush in Florida fiasco not counted). Yesterday, the citizens of Massachusetts elected a new senator. Surprise! In a state that belongs to the Democrats, by birth right according to some pundits, the people remembered their Kennedy heritage by electing a new… Republican. Guess the backroom faithful didn’t see that coming.

The tragedy in Haiti received another jolt this morning, with a strong (5.9/6.1) aftershock that further hampered rescue efforts. What can I add?

The fundraising efforts are in full swing, and the musical world kicks in later this week with huge telethons. Unfortunately, the “419” efforts are stepping along in lockstep, and if you haven’t received a shady email asking for your help. go and recheck your account. Not if, but when.

Forecasts for VANOC (that’s the acronym for the upcoming show on our rainy coast) mention that snow may be in short (shallow?) supply for competitions such as skiing and snowboarding. No new accumulations of note for the next few weeks. Plan B involves trucks.

After several hours of watching TV this evening, my favourite commercial involves a guinea pig, some balloons and a teacher/paramedic.
