No, I didn’t take leave of my senses and seek sand today. March is going out “like a lamb” but the beach is still several months away. Ahh, yes; sun, sand, water, isolation. The perfect way to spend a few hours in mid-summer.

I’ve never been a proponent of Pop Psychology. In fact, when I first learned there was a magazine by that name, back when I was a “serious student” in the psycho faculty, there was a degree of “How dare they”? With time, my nature has mellowed, and now I can get a kick out of the various tests now available to any of us with a ‘net connection and fifteen minutes to waste.

I’ve decided to try a little bit of continuity in content for this springtime period. About two weeks ago, I posted a pair of pictures taken exactly one year apart. I realized, in digging around, that I had actually covered a six week period last year, while sending messages back to a friend. So, why not try to repeat the same sequence again this year? If I can keep my life scheduled enough to make it to work every day, I can probably handle taking three dated pictures.

Slow to find it’s measure this season, the American Idol monster is starting to firm up. Last evening, the demure Gwen Stefani gave the performers all the room they needed, a bit of professional praise and added another star presence to a show that has proven for years to be a true entertainment value.

And morning came, and they looked out on the desolation, and wondered “What have we wrought?” Another election, and the only analogy I can apply is that we arrived at the buffet after heavy noontime traffic. We could still fill our plates, but all the good morsels were gone. We ended up with a plateful of leftovers. Three elections in a row, so we’ve proven that no matter what the level of government, the people make choices that defy reason. A plateful of leftovers, barely warm.

Sometimes a sad story hides behind another. Today, while local attention was concentrated on the election in progress, the local cheese factory announced it was closing. Just another economic downturn? Not quite, as this factory has been running a deficit for more than four decades. Obviously it was time to stop spilling milk. Not quite. This cheese was special.

It’s been almost a week since the gang in Ottawa rang the budget bell, and the thing is still ringing. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon tuned in to Cross Country Checkup, where almost everyone was somewhat dissatisfied, each for a different reason. I guess that’s one result of governing by obfuscation.

I’m an amateur in the kitchen. The preparation of daily meals, done under the pressure of watching hungry eyes doesn’t lead to experimenting. A failure costs too much in terms of takeout menus to replace the meal that wasn’t delivered in a timely fashion. But, I am intrigued by “new cuisine” as opposed to “old”; my cookbooks fit the tastes of my family and rarely try new directions.

There’s an old saying that everyone talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it. I am part of that happy gang; the climate is one of the biggest factors in how we live, if not where. If only we could choose where; because right now, whether or not we can do anything about it, weather or not, I’m jealous.

After gravity, friction ranks up there among my favourite natural forces. You don’t miss it until it’s gone. Take today for example; the climate people had warned us that warmer times were coming (after all, spring has started) but overnight a firm layer of ice covered everything. A rare and dangerous beauty, especially for those that are able to walk.
