Slight delay in delivery

As my online purchasing habits evolve, with more frequent shopping for books, with more orders for special repair parts, with more eBay, I’ve noticed one speedbump on the road. Delivery.

Window with a natural view

My office is housed in an old elementary school, many times renovated, with the front section dating back to 1864. The vestiges of a country school, when the city didn’t exist. Now, in one of the pricier neighbourhoods, the land is probably too valuable to do anything except house my office (actually, the land still belongs to a church, but we won’t go there).

Imminent signs of getting older

It\s finally happened; our youngest no longer wants to go shopping with the parents. The chance to hang out in the shops and buy stuff that isn’t really needed (but still fun to have) is not enough to tempt.

Requisite account of progress

Since last evening, I’ve been building a mystery box. You know, one of those projects that isn’t necessary, will probably suck more time and energy out of me than can be justified, but with one evening (no, two now) invested, on we go.

Small glitch to big miss

Our municipal transit system is large, running close to five hundred buses at a time, so the following isn’t their fault, but it still fits into the zoo of pet peeves that live in my space.

Alternate universe

Taking the time to riffle through the pages of a number of the newer cookbooks here, I have come to the profound belief that these meals are actually evidence of an alternate universe.

Road trip part 2

The church bells didn’t get any extra tourist customers, but we did have a leisurely breakfast in a bread store, out on the patio. I could have gone for bacon and eggs; a muffin sufficed. Then off to visit the shops.

Road trip part 1

And we’re off. No laundry loads or rainshowers or anything else could stay us (well, three of us anyway) from a voyage to Kingston, planned via all the ‘Net could offer us. Hotel reservations, maps, weather forecasts, phone calls to set things up. The cherry on top was a Skype call to my sister’s cell number made using the quickly installed LAN in the hotel room. Sweet!

Batteries are an option

The green part of my soul believes in rechargeable batteries. From my earliest experience with a simple D cell, placed on the warm part of the stove (warm, not hot) for a couple of hours, to give just a little more go power. To a drawer full of NiMH cells, rated for meaningless sums like 1500 mA hours.

Plan ahead

Another sign that summer is coming is the announcement of modified city bus schedules, to come into force in just over two weeks. Note that the date has no link to a)school closure b)vacation or c)a change in the ridership. Just a simple head’s up to the captive audience that for the next two months there will be fewer buses around for those who want to ride.
