Road trip part 1
And we’re off. No laundry loads or rainshowers or anything else could stay us (well, three of us anyway) from a voyage to Kingston, planned via all the ‘Net could offer us. Hotel reservations, maps, weather forecasts, phone calls to set things up. The cherry on top was a Skype call to my sister’s cell number made using the quickly installed LAN in the hotel room. Sweet!
Our location is prime real estate, right on the waterfront, with a view of the noisy bridge and the Wolfe Island ferry. In fact, standing on the balcony was much like standing at the rail of a ferry boat, including the gusts of wind. We did get out and walk about while deciding where to eat (ribs and wings at “Shoeless Joe’s”. The rain stayed lightly constant all day long, but you get to a point where it doesn’t really matter.
This was a good site for those who have laptops, and we were five out of seven. A Nintendo DS almost counts and my mother is saying things like “I should get one of these things” so we could get to 100% penetration of technology with a bit of time. The hotel offered free highspeed wired; my machine became the host for four other wireless users, as well as the receptacle for a torrent of data. Much better throughput than my cable at home.
We had a quiet room party, finishing off with SNL and Lindsay Lohan as the guest of honour. I didn’t get into the pool scene like the others, but we all make choices. Emily and Blanca were MSNning with a vengeance.
