This is not a reprise: Any time that resources are limited, the abuses seem to rise. Just check the gas pump prices (currently at 1.23/litre for regular around here).

Raise your hands, all those with fond memories of math class in high school. If a tree falls in the forest…

Any time that resources are limited, the abuses seem to rise. Just check the gas pump prices (currently at 1.14/litre for regular around here). At work, our meeting space is limited, so there is a protocol for using the conference areas.

Today was my first chance to “test drive” the new puppy, with a walk around the block. Ten minutes of exercise. For me. She was like a very curious fish, fighting the line while trying to see and walk in all directions at once.

We’re more than half way through the long holiday weekend, and a trip to the food store got supper, a trip to the video store got lame video and the weather is just better than acceptable. Whatever. The stores no longer close for holidays. So unlike the “good old days”. The video pickings were more our fault than anything else. Why wouldn’t a movie called “Klepto” with no known actors except for the girl from Peyton Place be less than Oscar quality? That’s why it’s available at a time like this. Now if the family doesn’t throw our good sleep habits out the window (fat chance), this weekend will score well on the relaxation scale.

Just checking my agenda, and our classes are all over. No, hold on there Rip Van Winkle, that was the 1976 agenda pages.

Every once in a while, we all get “that” shopping cart. You know, the one with a wheel that doesn’t rotate, or a rattling frame, or the one that steers itself. Never in an empty store. There’s a rule that says it must happen when you are in a crowded WalMart, filled with other weekend drivers. Where the cart’s tendency to randomly turn leaves some senior citizen just seconds away from a fender-bender (not caused by me, I assure you). Now, fill the cart with objects such as leaf rakes and chocolate bunnies, and try to keep a straight face as you weave and dodge through the aisles.

Some of the things we do at work are minor, in the greater world picture, but without them a number of people would find the day to be much longer than necessary. Small details. A wireless connection for a laptop that isn’t can stop a class session. Call the help desk and sometimes it just works. Printing the pay reports; the money still arrives in the respective bank accounts but the employee doesn’t feel that the process is “real” without the paper trail. The firewall that stops a blog skin from being displayed; the blogging still happens, but it doesn’t “look and feel” right until the process is fixed. That’s my role; make the others find a level of satisfaction in the process.

The snow is almost gone. Our lawn doesn’t resemble ground zero, exactly; I’d be willing to grade it as plus one, but the residue of two successive dogs, industrial snowblowers and the other assorted junk has left an appearance that the House And Gardens photo team will probably want to avoid. Still, a quiet optimism is felt in our neighbourhood. Fewer episodes of lawn shovelling this year (does this mean that my good example is bearing fruit?) The companies that spray chemical soup seem to be through with the supper-hour calls – guess their work term is finally here. I saw the lawn mower hiding out back. This is all good.
