Looking before leaping

Our parents are responsible for important character-building with the young and restless. As a parent, I have the same role, I guess. Anyhow, we spend a lot of time warning the young of the perilous lives we lead, and impress on their malleable minds that we should always “Look before we leap”.

But I do exist

I just “won” my first one cent auction on eBay. Now, nothing costs a penny; the shipping is for 700 percent of the amount, but not to quibble. The site had a very good explanation of what S&H stood for; I quote:

An evening of errands

Sometimes we just have to get out and do all those little odd runaround the town jobs that pile up. Tonight, the list wasn’t outrageously long, and it did all get done in time, but when someone asks what life was like here in the dawn of a new century, I can give this as a profile.

Going the distance

Part of my training the new dog is to get out and be led around on a leash every day. I have chosen the timeframe and the speed varies little from session to session, so today we headed off in a different direction. I mean, one house resembles another in this part of the city, but there’s a break in the “there goes the dog with its person” comments from the neighbours. As well, the GPS gets a chance to exercise too; how else would I know how far the dog took me?

Change of view

One of the features of WordPress that makes my day is the remarkable range of themes that can be applied, as long as you feel comfortable with the “out of the box” menu choices. A bit more effort, a bit of coding, and a bit of imagination and things get better; those same themes can be adapted and then adopted.

Don’t change the seasons, just yet

The big spring ritual of changing the tires is done. As usual, the team at the local tire store has me in and out in twenty minutes, and this might be the only company in town that remembers my name, based on a twice yearly visit. Go figure.

Irving and a green ad

Just spotted an Irving Oil advertisement on local TV, which had the pump attendant replacing the hamster supply in the motor. Wish I’d thought of that one.

Simple pleasures

I spent part of the afternoon in a bookstore, on what amounted to a prepaid trip. We’d bought some books for son #3 recently, only to find out that he had the collection on the shelf already, so the store did what made good business sense. They issued us a credit…

That fresh-roast smell

If you’re a coffee person, that odour from a fresh cup of coffee is wonderful; be it drip, espresso, whatever. Even a coffee-flavoured chocolate bar can seem right, from time to time. Up the level just a bit, now. How about going in to the local coffee store (I don’t mean a Timmy’s or Starbuck) where there are dozens of beans on sale, and the order is ground to your specifications on the spot. Varieties from five continents, with prices varying not with the distance that the bean has travelled, but rather with an equation that isn’t clear. Where the temptation to just sit back and sniff is so tempting.

Sandy McTire would not be smiling

Given that spring is getting close, I had the lawnmower brought in from under the deck for a little once-over before the first cut is upon me. A bit of lubrication might help, so I stopped into my favourite local hardware store, the one that is Canadian and sells tires among other things.
