Looking before leaping

posted in pets |

Our parents are responsible for important character-building with the young and restless. As a parent, I have the same role, I guess. Anyhow, we spend a lot of time warning the young of the perilous lives we lead, and impress on their malleable minds that we should always “Look before we leap”.

This afternoon, while out in the back yard getting spring things in order, I was somewhat surprised to see our puppy soar over the gate on our deck. A mental image from the Saturday morning cartoons… The jump into open air did not force wings to sprout and she unceremoniously landed in a pile of legs on the lawn below. Shocked: both of us. If dogs have egos (definitely), hers may have suffered. A hint that the message from “Mother Dog” did not get passed along before she headed off into the wild world. I also expect that she will not repeat this test of ability/agility/mobility. So grow we all…
