Overheard from an optimist: “If my vineyard doesn’t produce good wine, I can use the grapes to make vinegar”. That is about as positive an outlook as I’ve run across. Not enough for me to devote an acre of my land to monoculture, but close.

Entertainment, political style. While the House sits through a national holiday, in order to allow a debate on proposed legislation to end the lockout at the post office. Let’s examine the collected oddities.

I’m a spectator to a demonstration of mechanical insufficiency. That’s just a nice way of saying that our weed whacker is not the sharpest tool in the drawer. When I see son #3 mixing a homemade herbicide (vinegar, salt and dish detergent) to avoid future sessions with the blue string twirler, I know we need an alternative solution.

Musically, the world doesn’t need any C & W Rap. Or heavy metal waltzes. Instead, let’s protect the classics. From the 70s and 80s.

I’m older now, and able to buy some of the little things that would have made sense a long time ago. Case in point: I now own a drum stick bag. Took me just short of four decades to get around to it.

Good music on the radio this evening. Mind, radio is a relative term; I’m listening to an internet feed that is decent quality in my headphones. I should take a couple of aspirin and go lie down, the better to resolve a headache brought on by the accumulation of four hours of political debate. Four hours of my life that I can never get back, might say a wiser man, but I did tune in for two consecutive evenings by choice. And oh, if I only had a choice. Clearly, things in Ottawa haven’t changed for the better, even in 2011. Pity. Maybe we need a different strategy, because what we’re doing right now isn’t working.

Proof that hockey really is our national sport: the French-language debate has been moved to a different evening, due to a conflict with the start of the Hab/Bruin series. When I heard about the request, I thought that we were doing belated April Fool stories. When the change was confirmed, later this afternoon, I realized that there is a parallel universe for sports fans. We prorogue parliament to avoid votes and we move televised debates to… I really don’t know why. Is there a correlation between the sports couch potato and the political junkie?

Just because I waited until after the sun set to go and check the mail, it doesn’t mean that I’m turning into a vampire. It’s medical. My pupil doesn’t shrink, so things are bright… all day long. In fact, I’m glad that we’re in for some cloudy weather.
