Life with a cracked menu screen and scratched spectacles

posted in economy, music |

Entertainment, political style. While the House sits through a national holiday, in order to allow a debate on proposed legislation to end the lockout at the post office. Let’s examine the collected oddities.

The holiday is a national one, but not for the larger nation. Remember, Canada is a Confederation. Sort of akin to a duck-billed platypus.  And the debate is rather one-sided, given that the government has stayed home for the day(s). The loyal opposition is present, and each member has an unlimited opportunity to stand before the assembly and speak. Rhetoric: sure. Everyone knows that the filibuster must end; entropy is one of those laws of the universe. When the motor runs down, there will be a vote, and the majority will carry the day(s).

And in a rational universe, back-to-work legislation is used to end strikes, not lockouts. But this is Canada.

I’m dreaming of summer, when I’ll have new lenses for my spectacles. And I’d like to find a replacement for my wounded MP3 player, since even spectacles won’t heal that cracked menu screen. I’ve memorized the current load of music; the first two letters of a file name suffice in choosing my soundtrack for the day, but there might be a better solution if I’m willing to shop and spend.

We received our “retro” payment at work. Tiny percentages on frozen salary packages do not bestow great riches. To trick the interested, the pay slip also covered a longer time period (something to do with accounting rules and fiscal years). What looked enticing was revealed to be little more than a bandaid on a scraped knee.
