Revisiting great memories
Just because I waited until after the sun set to go and check the mail, it doesn’t mean that I’m turning into a vampire. It’s medical. My pupil doesn’t shrink, so things are bright… all day long. In fact, I’m glad that we’re in for some cloudy weather.
This too shall pass.
If it takes almost thirty years to buy something, does it still qualify as an impulse purchase? Today, following a lead in the Guardian, I went online and ordered a 2-CD set of the best of Ryan’s Fancy. From a shop on Water Street, in St. John’s, that I might get to visit, some day. Thanks to the wise decision of a shopkeeper to set up an online purchase module on his website, even people that are days away can still spend money!
In this case, it’s about time. The trio stopped “working” when I still lived down East, but their material is just as good after all these years. The fact that part of the purchase price goes to the Dermot O’Reilly Legacy Award at MUN is icing on the cupcake. Imagine, a whole catalog of material that never made the transition from vinyl to CD. A generation of listeners will have a chance to sample the sound of talent.
I don’t know if I missed any concerts by Ryan’s Fancy during my UPEI years. Not likely. I also headed off to venues like the rink in Kensington and the Brother’s Two in Summerside, which almost qualifies me for “faithful fan” status.
