A bad review with ramifications

Now this is fun! On one side, the man who would be king of the world (no, not the guy on the Titanic). On the other side, the owner of a magazine with circulation numbers over the million mark. On one hand, a restaurateur (at least by ownership). On the other hand, someone with the ability to write coherently. Let the games begin.

Done with the sandwiches

After four days of bleeting horns and associated brouhaha, I’ll be happy to put union activism behind me. The gang at the hotel down the street are loud (and allowed). Inside our hotel, better than a block away, through doubled windows, peace is compromised.

Advanced holiday dates

Although the calendar shows that there are still a few shopping days remaining, we decided to play the “flexible schedule” card. Our family Christmas was today. No tinsel tree or turkey. Simply a gathering of our family.

Hot food and talk

I’m unsure of the actual timeline, but I feel safe in using the catch phrase “What a difference a year makes”. At least, in terms of our effort to integrate into the community.

A new way to vote, for me

For someone who favours a “cloak of invisibility”, I’ve had an outstanding social run this last while. Weekly breakfasts with a group, in a public place. Actual visits to other homes, and public performance with a musical instrument, however spontaneous. Much more of this activity and my own children won’t recognize me (although that could also be due to my reluctance to go up where they live.

A salute to limited vocabulary

In keeping with the “I can’t believe I…” meme, I’ve watched all three of the “Who wants to be a president?” debates. Last evening, I learned that democracy only works when the involved parties want it to; right now, we don’t know if the distinction between “I won” and “I lost” will be respected. On a similar note, Twitter has found a new way to salute the limited vocabulary of one debater: #TrumpBookReports

Refreeze and reheat is not reflavour

Trying to put a positive spin on my supper choice. Reheated pizza. The freezer bundles are small, and they’re almost all gone.

Off to explore

A new first on my list, today. We were off to join our “breakfast club”, like most other weekends, and we ate a standard kind of meal… or at least I did. On the other side of the table, only coffee. Anyhow, when the meal ended, I headed off to exercise the car dog. Back in the car, we headed out to explore back roads. The Glen, etc.

Tree tilt

Nothing lasts forever: should be printed on the side of a BBQ fuel tank. This evening, while my two steaks were carefully arrayed, the grill temperature went from low to “no longer registering”. I had a Plan B, and so the meal was completed in the kitchen, but now I’m going to have to find a gas vendor… or settle for an exchange at the local general store. Again, Plan B.

Berry beating

Distracted by an invitation to come and feast on a free-range fowl, I missed a second conversation. We were at breakfast, in town, and I am so used to solo morning meals that I am easily distracted… Anyway, we soon found ourselves en route to a nearby cranberry bog (the commercial variety, where they flood between the banks and beat the poor berries into submission). No harvesting today, but we now own a rather large plastic bag of berries that will require a lot of transformation before they resemble the canned jellied product I’ve served over the years. Who says I can’t learn anything new?
