Done with the sandwiches

posted in food, travel |

After four days of bleeting horns and associated brouhaha, I’ll be happy to put union activism behind me. The gang at the hotel down the street are loud (and allowed). Inside our hotel, better than a block away, through doubled windows, peace is compromised.

Little matter. This is probably the final full day here, although I’m still on winter watch. We lost power (at home) around noontime, which means that my own weather obs aren’t getting out. The wind and snow will blow through until tomorrow a.m.; we should arrive after the road clearing is complete.

Late in the afternoon, I headed off for a farewell shopping tour of the music and sporting goods shops close by. Brought home little things: a tire pressure gauge being the best of the booty. No heavy burden to carry, despite the enviro-friendly personality of one shop (no bags available). The drizzle wasn’t as much fun, with the mercury just above zero.

After some deliveries to sons #2 & #3, we were off to a restaurant. I’ve had enough Subway to last me, and I wanted warm comfort food. Chicken with fries and pot-pie, for instance. After satiation, we went over to see son #1. There: all the kids.

We have the car fuelled, so that we can get on the road early. No need to stop until somewhere in NB. The next time we get away like this, the leaves should be back on the trees. From my side of the car, I’m ready to return to my homebody lifestyle with comfortable chairs and warm floors.
