Although the calendar shows that there are still a few shopping days remaining, we decided to play the “flexible schedule” card. Our family Christmas was today. No tinsel tree or turkey. Simply a gathering of our family.
Believe me, this worked out well. Other years, we’ve tried to bend the clock, with mediocre results. This time, we packed the car (full) for our cross-town jaunt, with the dog surprised to find that the rear (not technically a trunk in a hatchback) was his seat of honour.
There was food, and music, and comparisons of the newest game titles. We had a visit from a new grand-nephew (every time I use a term like that, I find myself checking to see if there is an older member of the tree around; nope, I’m it).
Fast forward to the evening, with three of us and a dog holding court in the hotel room. I’m keeping an eye on the probs, given the hints of a big storm moving up the seaboard.
This afternoon, another Vanier Cup victory for ULaval. I had to follow progress via Twitter, but the success was in no way diminished. Ninth time in their twenty-one year history. Quick learners.
The others may get off to a local cinema for the newest effort from the magical wand/pen of JK Rowling. I’ll hang back and see what I can find on my own cinema library shelf. Saves the dog from an evening of car-sitting, at least. Plus, I can bedwarm. And pretend I’m on a vacation.
