New preview effort

It all came together: a bread machine, some rapidly ripening bananas and a small container of walnuts. Stir in some filler, wait for the machine to work its magic and voilà… Homebrew banana loaf. Actually quite tasty, and much less work than the old way.

Client retention failure

Watching the mess happening in Paris, via the wonderful viewpoint of the television journalist. Thanking whoever that I don’t live in a place where the civil order is so fragile. Or maybe I do. Not so long ago that we had our own moment in the viewfinder (Ottawa and St-Jean).

A premier swap?

If son #1 happens to check in here (instead of partying like you are on a tropical beach), rest easy. Your pipes have not exploded in the -40C temperatures you happen to have avoided. Carry on.

Not convinced enough to support

Talk about pulling a bait and switch routine. The local news broadcast had me ready for more news about the mayor and his out-of-control roaming habit. The news that makes me giggle and self-righteous (according to she who knows most things). Instead, word that Havana and Washington are about to kiss and make up.

Pay your own freight

The local newspaper carried one of those wire photos that give one pause. Nothing involving mass deaths, or natural disasters, or cute animals. Rather, a group photo with a young man, a young woman and a famous athlete. Arm on shoulder, side by each. And the explanation that a whole nation of empire builders are in a tizzy because one of “their family” had come into contact with a commoner. Someone owes someone an apology…

The rewards of profligate spending

Turns out  that crime DOES pay, at least if your job title is regal enough. The former (small mercy) lieutenant governor has decided to plead guilty to fraud charges after a half-decade of “We are not amused” defense of profligate spending. She is willing to repay almost $310K to the public purse; pity that the amount is short of the $700K considered to be MIA.

Unaffected by the shopping fever

Too old or too poor? Not sure. The whole “Black Friday” excitement just isn’t doing it for me. I’m sure that somebody, somewhere, found something for somebody and saved a tenspot or two. Not me…

Milk and more

Had to be proactive this morning; there was no more milk on hand, and that means coffee just won’t go down (for some). And it isn’t as simple as that old song about “a spoonful of sugar”. Didn’t people care about good nutrition back then?

Provide winning tickets instead

Erase the trace, one step at a time. My principal email address has to change, and there are a lot of contacts that are soon going to be irrelevant. For those list servers that provide a clean “unsubscribe” process – thank you! And may the others learn the heartbreak of rejection, as my (current) SMTP process ceases to acknowledge my “existence”. Finally, virtual life will model reality.

Now a world-class target

Although I deplore cheap nationalism, when something happens within “our” country, I wear the same symbolic jersey. This morning, for the second time in three days, somebody decided that the visible uniform, that of soldiers, is an invitation to attack. Not in a foreign war, as has been the usual detail of Canadian history. Here, at home. Just down the road.
