Unaffected by the shopping fever

posted in economy, politics |

Too old or too poor? Not sure. The whole “Black Friday” excitement just isn’t doing it for me. I’m sure that somebody, somewhere, found something for somebody and saved a tenspot or two. Not me…

Yes, there was some retail in the collectivity today, and we managed to combine online and in store beneficially, but there was no way I would line up OR wrestle for the stuff we bought. Come on – how many other people even wanted a new bread machine? Or a chair? Obviously the competitive shopper has more lucrative booty in view.

Apparently there was a big fire at the local paper factory this morning. Posts on FB; evidence of the level of interest and excitement. However, by suppertime I had to play my patience card to even hear about it on the news. Guess that nothing fell down (or the mayor would have held a press conference or three.

Speaking of press conference content, a former classmate is now “in the running” for the premier’s (vacated) office on the Island. Could get interesting, if a quick writ is dropped. Hang on, and let me gain my right to vote, first. I’ll be a wonderful voter, aware of the issues, undecided… Can I join multiple parties? Should we put bumper sticks on the rear, to show our colours?

And as the weekend begins, let me wish great Vanier and Grey Cup games to all involved. You can’t all win, of course…. As long as the TV works, I’ll be on the (virtual) sidelines, hoping to catch an errant pass.
