Just learned from a TV documentary (Suzuki et al) that sea otters must eat 25% of their body mass each day. Has to do with maintaining body temperature. That consumption figure reminds me of something: teenagers and the home refrigerator.

Strangely, the land was calm. After fifteen months of “he said vs she said”, the chatter ceased, and the nation went on task. Today, the neighbours are voting; the rest of us (as Tim Curry stated so well, back in 1975) “quiver with anticipation”. We won’t know how things are going until midnight, locally. Maybe not even then, given that one candidate has put the rest on notice about how a decision to accept will depend on the results. Ain’t never been an election quite like this!

Having watched professional sports on TV, I have a healthy respect for the “elastic clock”. That’s where two teams are close in point count, and the timer shows, for example, two minutes remaining. In the time it takes to play through to the final whistle, I can get my laundry started, prepare supper and convince the dog that our walk really should be delayed.

For someone who favours a “cloak of invisibility”, I’ve had an outstanding social run this last while. Weekly breakfasts with a group, in a public place. Actual visits to other homes, and public performance with a musical instrument, however spontaneous. Much more of this activity and my own children won’t recognize me (although that could also be due to my reluctance to go up where they live.

How I miss my youthful vision! I’m speaking in the mechanical, rather than the philosophical mode. That puzzle that I purchased at a really good price last afternoon (I didn’t realize how good a price, until I received back a lot more change than expected); it couldn’t be left to gather dust.

In keeping with the “I can’t believe I…” meme, I’ve watched all three of the “Who wants to be a president?” debates. Last evening, I learned that democracy only works when the involved parties want it to; right now, we don’t know if the distinction between “I won” and “I lost” will be respected. On a similar note, Twitter has found a new way to salute the limited vocabulary of one debater: #TrumpBookReports

Those dry fields, from yesterday? Not any more. It’s been raining for the last twenty hours or so, and we just passed the 115mm measured rainfall mark. Coupled with high winds – the dog flatly refuses to go outside without better incentives. I understand. We didn’t flinch when the lights did so, because the generator kicked in as planned. Not so simple for our neighbour, with a smaller backup system. Our ovens were drafted into service for the afternoon.

Took me two trips, but I was ready. The new speaker columns are, finally, complete. Reworked my bolt strategy, and filled both of the cylinders with sand (that’s why it took two trips; too heavy for me to handle, otherwise). And I’m satisfied. My record of completions on personal projects has been lackluster, so actually getting the job done feels good.

Turns out I’m both (technically) poor AND lazy. A bad combination, where my spending exceeds my income and I accept to “eat out” twice in one day. Must show some reserve, ASAP.

I’ve followed this evening’s local news with an episode of Gerry Dee, followed by an episode of Sheldon. Found humour all the way. What has my life become?
