The hiss of a deflating balloon
Took me two trips, but I was ready. The new speaker columns are, finally, complete. Reworked my bolt strategy, and filled both of the cylinders with sand (that’s why it took two trips; too heavy for me to handle, otherwise). And I’m satisfied. My record of completions on personal projects has been lackluster, so actually getting the job done feels good.
Today, the long-awaited provincial AG report on the e-gaming mess was made public. The province has been waiting on this one for many, many moons. Oddly, nothing unexpected. For anyone who followed the file, the mistakes were already known. But, for anyone waiting for the “Boom!”, all we really received was the sound of that balloon deflating. Slowly, quietly. A muted hiss.
The premier faced the press (our own version of a toothless lion), and simply said that he was sure that the AG had done everything professionally. No apology. A vague promise to enact whistle-blower legislation (which has little to do with the actual complaint).
The other named parties have refused comment. The former premier – nothing. The law firm that seems to have squirreled away a lot of public monies – nothing.
I’m nonplussed. There are two sets of rules here. Those in power vs the rest of us. If I lost a million and a half of the funds for which I was (even indirectly) responsible. In real life, a shrug of the powerful shoulders; life goes on.
Meanwhile… is there a meanwhile? I’ll wait for additional commentary, and hope that someone will find a reason to demand reparations.
