An uncomfortable monologue

For anyone that thinks the lobster roll is a quick, delicious snack… don’t try it at home. Getting the meat  out of the body armour is more work than I would want to tackle on a regular basis.

Next time, please call ahead

How to tell if a story is based on spin or fact? Well, if it doesn’t describe “tires in the mud”, you have to find something to reinforce the tale, I guess. Right now, the news is discussing whether I (meaning you, too) should be adamant about receiving a particular brand of vaccine, or can a mixture actually serve you better. When the health officials postulate that a mix could give you increased immunity (with no other evidence to back this up), could it be that they are simply smoothing the way for a perceived shortage. I don’t know. This is all too new. When I received my last important immunization (probably against polio as I am old), you weren’t given options.

Group them together

How do I feel about public rules? Well, let me give you an example: in one of our provinces, a particular church has been closed. Fenced off. The members of that “faith community”refused to stay away, after receiving a direct order about quarantine. Now they have neither access to the building, nor the support of the majority of their neighbours.

What does not exist cannot be copied

This is the time of the season when the weather watchers become intoxicated with optimism. After all, no matter how much snow has fallen during our cold season, we’re ready for it to be done. As one fellow says on the forum “I’m ready to stick a fork in it”.

Hide your kid-lit

The library corner devoted to Dr. Seuss is special. For many children in America, his simple rhymes serve as a foundation in the pile of books that every child is likely to read. Now, keep in mind that Mr. Geisel died almost thrty years ago. His many books have content that might not haved aged well. The estate has decided to delist almost ten percent of his published work. If you have hardcover volumes in your personal library, hide them well.

Is your library sufficient to your needs?

I have read that “you are what you eat”. Perhaps, although most of that goes off to unseen places. I believe that we are actually “what you read”. Otherwise, most of our knowledge has to come from listening to others; a skill that few possess.

Time requires an explanation

IN one of my threads from social media, I’ve been reading about healthy lifestyles. The usual simple rules; regular exercise, diet control, sufficient sleep. All the things that we were raised to believe (thanks, Mom). Except that the storyline derailed… removing caffeine from my life. Whoa! There are limits! After all, coffee is just what you retain from running hot water (healthy) over roasted beans (sort of healthy).

Operation window open/close

If only the sounds were more predictable. This afternoon, with the temperature just below freezing, and the house very quiet, I could hear little pops and clicks from the attic. Pops, mainly. As if nails were being unseated in the shingles. And it worries me, even if there’s no real need. Please, roof, stay in one place.

Time to study extruders

Today’s amazing story involves fast food. Over in Pompeii, where the sky famously fell on folk’s heads (a long time ago), the cleanup has turned into a multi-century process. And recently, someone uncovered a small streetside restaurant that probably served the pedestrian traffic. Cars not being yet a thing, etc.

Hamilton really is all that

Guess I don’t need to crash the frontier, on my way to Broadway. We’re test driving the Disney channel, and this afternoon my sonic space belongs to Hamilton. Really. I don’t have any stage skills, so the ability to sing hundred of pages of lyrical content is something I can only witness. Lin-Manuel is a GOD!
