“Missed us by THAT much!” Maxwell Smart said it, but we live it. Another close encounter with an asteroid, this afternoon. No dinosaurs were driven to extinction, but we may not have to worry about mundane things like peak oil, or storm surge; the next time a big old rock zips by, the zip might be zap.

This will be a mundane post, to reflect a mundane day. Fasten your seatbelt, though. Just in case.
My eyeglasses still need two lenses, even if one is there as a windscreen. I noticed that a certain state of dizziness accompanied me throughout the day, and when I arrived at the optical shop… I was happy. My new pair of glasses were ready, at the time the lady had promised. Good stuff. As well, my day gained a bit of flash, when the delivery truck showed up at work (at the appointed time). Suddenly, clocks made sense. Enough detail.

Every once in a while, I get one of those Eureka moments. Nothing to do with my tent. Tonight, I’m being called by the barre. Or to the barre. I’ll have to work that out as I go along.

Back into recording my efforts on the guitar. For public presentation, no less. Sit in a quiet bedroom, with the laptop and Audacity ready to record. Hit the round button, grab the guitar, work through the exercise, hit stop. Listen, erase, repeat until I hit the wall. You know, that place where “it isn’t going to get any better (today), so I might as well save the effort”. Five times tonight, in keeping with the five requested submissions. Upload, link to the reporting form and then get out of there. Until the next time.

Finally getting the hang of this whole cellphone thing. It’s simple. Remember to charge it, every day. Plugging in one end of the USB cable will not be sufficient. When the phone goes DONG DONG DONG at 0630, it’s not the kind of alarm one would think, and you will be carrying dead weight until you find a charger. Trying to ration the data plan for the first twenty-nine/thirty days of a billing period assures that you will only use 40% of the quota you have paid for. All lingering minutes are lost. Get over it. The constant switching between LTE and wifi means that FB will be available on demand, sort of. As in, if you dig deep enough in the menu system, you can demand to get around the firewall at work. Just a question of practice. If the phone company wants to know when you are going to pay them, it means that you already have. Right hand and left hand, etc.

I wish I still had that “going to live forever” mentality that blesses the young folk. Not that I want to get careless or fearless or anything less; I just would like some assurance that I’ll have time to do all the things I still want to do. In simple terms, I hadn’t thought about the relevance of a bucket list.

In a flash, my confusion returned. Let me explain. Today, for the first time in years, I used my fancy flash to take some photos. A big family affair, where the light was important. And since I’ve been “contemplating” the purchase of another electronic flash, either as reinforcement or replacement, I wanted to know how the current equipment would work out for me.

The Moodies said it so well: Another day’s useless energy spent. I’m ready to sleep, but my day isn’t over. Still have to relay some messages to others in the house, and the dog doesn’t understand why I’ve dressed him in his Thundershirt. Dear Dog, I did it because you looked more bored than me.

In this town, what qualifies as a big news story has to taken in context. Today, we learned (over and over again) that a local hockey coach is graduating to the pros. As a coach; he had already spent years as a player. What goes around, etc. I have no idea if anything else happened. Tomorrow, I’ll catch up.

I like analogies. One more way of making sense of my world. I’m not going to bore you with a list of popular ones; you can do that for yourself. But when a situation can be compared, that’s my game.
