Lots of flash around here
“Missed us by THAT much!” Maxwell Smart said it, but we live it. Another close encounter with an asteroid, this afternoon. No dinosaurs were driven to extinction, but we may not have to worry about mundane things like peak oil, or storm surge; the next time a big old rock zips by, the zip might be zap.
Finally had a chance to see a Gary Fong contraption up close. Much larger than I imagined. About the size of that 2 liter measuring cup I keep on the countertop, with improved diffusion properties. If the price point was more flexible, it might be an interesting addition to the gear bag. Until then, I’m back to visualizing homebrew.
The bus ride home was warm, but given that we were headed steadily in the correct direction, I didn’t mind. Since then (for several hours now), we’ve been under a thunder storm alert with shock and awe. Lots of flash (no Fong required). Enough noise that the dog is wearing his Thundershirt, willingly. A fine start to a weekend, and if the rain stops I’ll try to drop the pool level by a few centimeters. No need to back fill with a hose, this time around.
Time to choose a new book for the evening. My Philip Kerr fascination is stalled. Too many clichés. Maybe the new Cussler stuff, or something completely different. I’ll get back to you on the details, maybe.
A strong possibility of strikes in the local construction industry, and the mayor is apoplectic. Not more than usual, but HIS arena requires constant care and feeding, if it is to grow into a healthy money pit.
