Eureka! I’ve finally found a company that cares about their clients. Eureka!
Several weeks back, in a moment of melancholy over the end of vacation, I sent an email to the wholesaler that supplies a large part of my name brand camping gear. Tents, in particular. I had a pole collapse on our tent (a major issue, when you intend to stay in the tent for weeks on end, and it only has two). Anyhow, they replied within minutes, asking that I send the pole in for inspection. At home, we found a second pole (from one of the other tents by the same manufacturer which had snapped in the field. Packaged them up (in a cardboard tube that had delivered my low D whistle) and sent them off by courier ($3).

Supper in sandwich mode: the new Ashton, just up the way, providing the fodder. I still miss the chicken place (a meal on a stick: intriguing), but if it means that proper poutine is minutes away then I’ll acquiesce. For emergencies only, in subscript.

The noise level has gone way up at work this week. Those windows that were uncovered recently (hidden behind a wall made the good old way, with lime and asbestos) are now, if you’ll excuse the pun, in the limelight. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Changed my coat today. Not so that anyone would notice, mind you. I’m a firm believer in the low key look, and I won’t change style or colour unless the article is no longer available. Think of long term success: blue jeans, or white socks. The perfect polo. That’s my choice and I’m old enough that nobody (else) cares.

Famine or feast. At our house, that describes the moment when the refrigerator contains twelve litres of milk, due to a lack of communications. Dueling dairy buyers. If ever there was a reason for an automated, intelligent pantry system, complete with SMS updates…

There are times when you have to strike. A drum, for instance. Or a snake (before it strikes you). A few other examples are available. But this time around, as hockey gets set to go on strike (technically, a lockout; don’t quibble), perhaps a truce would be a better choice.

In a local version of “Be nice to your tech staff”, I had back to back phone calls this morning. The first, from a client. The second, from the phone company. Both making sure that all was well in my universe, because things weren’t broken in theirs. This doesn’t happen any more frequently than a “blue moon”, so I thought I’d mention it.

The city of New York has a new regulation pending. No selling glasses of soft drink that exceed an arbitrary limit of 16 ounces. No mention if the measure limits the ice cube filler. Anyhow, there will be no limit imposed on those patrons that wish to purchase more than two 8 ounce portions at a time. Do the math, if you can. The city obviously can’t.

Using a bowling analogy, not every ball is a strike. Apple learned that, today. New phone: sure. Revolutionary: not so much. When the best feature is a connector that doesn’t have a “right side up”… However, if this drives the competition to a lower price point, (in the next dozen days), I win. A little like playing the markets. Seriously. In a best case scenario, I could be another $40 richer, just because the “5” has been presented in the temple.

Missed the staff meeting today. As opposed to “a staff meeting”, this was one that was scheduled, announced, catered. Breakfast for the starving masses. Because, in the real world, there are always bigger priorities.
