I’m a spectator to a demonstration of mechanical insufficiency. That’s just a nice way of saying that our weed whacker is not the sharpest tool in the drawer. When I see son #3 mixing a homemade herbicide (vinegar, salt and dish detergent) to avoid future sessions with the blue string twirler, I know we need an alternative solution.

Big Friday night at home. Got the house to myself. I can kick back and let loose. Let’s see…
First of all, some music. A great occasion to sample Myspace. I mean, if I don’t know the artist, maybe I’ll be less prejudiced (in a good or bad way). The sound from the laptop won’t fill a concert hall, but the sentiment is there. Let’s see if I can break out of my Celtic Everything mold for a short while.

The Montreal newspaper offered more than news, today. Included was a prediction: that someone would win the Stanley Cup, tonight. Thank you for that, “journalist in the thick of things”. This is the middle of June… it’s about time.

Two strikes. Both in Canada, both dealing with fields that used to be nationalized. Similar levels of difficulty, from the point of view of employee effort. Similar salary packages. And, very different responses from the federal government. In the case of the postal workers, the minister responsible wants to be informed if there is any change. In the case of the airline workers, back-to-work legislation is imminent, after only twenty-four hours.
