The realm is aflutter

The country is all aflutter. Royals in the territory, and all that. Newspapers, TV, people on the street (not all of them, but one or two); ready to trade any semblance of sanity for a chance to see, to glimpse. Enough to drive the rest of us to distraction.

Baptism of fire

The first barbecue of the season. A baptism of fire. Tonight I limited the sacrifice to the deities (by leaving my bottles of cheap sauce in the refrigerator). After all, as I’ve always explained to the family, the meat isn’t burned… it’s the sauce.

Grain silo cinema

Note to self: stop dreaming. You can’t afford to buy a new camera, even if it does rate as significantly better than what you have, according to Snapsort.com (my new favourite site for photo geekiness). There.

Strange movies and new camera chatter

Too bad that I hadn’t skipped over the choice, when it was offered on Netflix. But the elements were there: a train, Danny Glover and Leelee Sobieski.  Mainly the train.

Flip-flop fields and near misses

Due to my pragmatic view of things, I’m not going to miss any sleep over the near approach of an asteroid tomorrow afternoon. Little matter that it’s the size of a city bus, and scheduled to pass withing 8 kilo-miles (pardon the attempted mix of units). The continuing saga of MP vs MP

A tip of my (virtual) hat to the current Parliament. They stayed up through another night and day, debating in that odd “dialogue of the men without ears” that is used in the constitutional monarchy. That is, each side repeats its mantra, and the other pays no attention. Finally, at supper time today, a vote was held.

Life with a cracked menu screen and scratched spectacles

Entertainment, political style. While the House sits through a national holiday, in order to allow a debate on proposed legislation to end the lockout at the post office. Let’s examine the collected oddities.

Crowd control by tap control

And now we wait. Will the new face of law and order prevail, or will the traditional face of the holiday persist? A heady show, to watch from a distance.

Taking to the air

A change in routine, today. Instead of the ordinary bus ride to the office, I was squeezed into a seat on a Beech King 100 and flown 980 km NNE, followed by a 980 km  return along the same track. In between, other stuff.

The mystery pot

While perusing the Creuset catalog, I had wondered about the purpose of some of the items on offer. This evening, during a rare moment of community, I learned part of the answer.
