Practical vs reckless
Practical vs reckless decisions. I’ve made a few along the way. Here’s one where I’m going to go with safe and cheap.
What if I needed another fan, because I know that warm hot weather is coming. Should I go for the tried and true 10′ oscillating fan from the local box store, or get crazy with a Dyson bladeless model? Hmm.

Based on local retail prices, I can purchase (the “Can I afford” factor is discounted) an amazing twenty-seven bladed models for the same price point as the other design. Put in a “surround the room with moving air” system (noise is not an issue, since I’m slowly going deaf).
I’d still like to go in to the store and hear the sales guy explain why I should forget a design that has endured for over a century, and opt into something that would be a good prop in a sci-fi flick. Just for the comedy.
Bought me another clock today. Can’t have enough reminders that time is passing me by. This time around, I wanted something with a large readout (I’m also going blind, slowly). The local “used to be a pretty good electronics store” had one on sale, and since I had to go out on a CD-envelope run anyhow, I decided to spring for some more technology. I like it… 24 hour time, set to UTC, a reminder that tomorrow comes earlier than you think, a thermometer to remind me how all those fans are going to keep me cool.
The perfect gift for the man who has “everything I need, almost” (thank you, Downchild Blues Band).
