People in glass houses

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones (virtual or otherwise). In the case of the Canadian parliamentarians, I’m sure they’ll pay no attention to that advice.

Questions about cow tipping

In part because I’d like to live there, the new series from St. John’s, “Republic Of Doyle“, is getting positive ratings in my living room. Can’t speak for the rest of the nation, but I like what’s happening here/there.

Musical tidbits

The human is a social animal. The Idol contender is not. We’re into the equivalent of roller derby, except that the level of cooperation is coincidental. Only one will make it to the top of the pile, and the elbows (vocally) are flying. Welcome to Hollywood. Not as much fun as auditions. A constant reminder of the underbelly of the beast.

1984, in the rear view mirror

Might as well close out the day with a stressful movie. After all, it fits well with today.

We were told that there might be a bit of a storm, and I no longer believe such predictions. Neither do the local authorities, so when the school closures began (while I was on my bus), I took it all in stride. After all, my board waits to see. And, effectively, all the other boards in the area had already called “pause”, while we were still mentioning that the daycare services might be disrupted.

The ever-shrinking bookshelf

Footprints in my snow

Somewhere in the city, there’s a parade underway. I’m not there. Is that why they’ve take to the streets?

Scratch and lose

Finally, a reason to learn more math. According to this month’s issue of Wired, a Toronto-based statistician has figured out the mystery of the scratch-and-lose ticket. With enough time, he could have turned this into a paying gig. It seemed like a sure thing,  until he went the extra few lines in his proof, and realized that his regular job paid better than spending and scratching.

Does this mean free?

The song “What A Diff’rence A Day Makes” doesn’t apply in the context of my local dreamers. I mentioned them, yesterday: Regis and Jean/John. Today their Plan B was revealed, in full technicolor. They are going ahead, despite the lack of contribution from the feds and the private sector.

First rule of magic – misdirect attention

I’m a day early, and a few dollars shy, but let’s open with a quote taken from the Federal goverment website. The one that explains how a part of the money Canadians spend on every litre of gasoline is earmarked. The part that explains the GTF (Gas Tax Fund), which is a virtual piggybank, collected by piggy from the rest of us.
