Questions about cow tipping

posted in media, Wx |

In part because I’d like to live there, the new series from St. John’s, “Republic Of Doyle“, is getting positive ratings in my living room. Can’t speak for the rest of the nation, but I like what’s happening here/there.

The fact that Netflix has picked up last season, and I can watch multiple episodes with nary a commercial to break the spell, helps. Of  course. But the scenery is great, the storylines are plausible (really going out on a limb with that one), and Allan Hawco has a certain je ne sais quoi (how do you say that in Newfoundland vernacular?)

Almost the weekend. With the promise of some freezing rain, I’ve taken the time to clear off the front walkway (breaking another shovel handle, for those who keep score). That way, the ice chipping efforts will be easier. And the garbage bins are out, in case tomorrow proves difficult.

While watching TV, I found myself explaining the concept of “cow tipping”. Never seen it, never done it. Doesn’t the flashlight wake the intended victim? Do tippers wander around in the dark? Do they only venture forth when there’s moonlight? What if one cow is suffering from insomnia, and alerts the others? This might require further investigation.

The prime minister has announced the intention of the government to pass a citizen’s arrest law? Oh, the possibilities!

The CRTC is holding public consultation on whether TV ads are louder than program content. And then what? Will their solution work any better than the “Do not call” regulations. Excuse me, the phone is ringing.
