I had a flashback to one of those interminable high school literature classes this afternoon. No Shakie here; we were reading fine, local, Canadian short stories by Stephen Leacock. I should add that my high school had a love/hate relationship with some of his other works, so the inclusion of My Financial Career made perfect sense.

No wonder I feel like there’s a cloud over my head. I just took a look at the computerized weather records that I’m keeping, and so far this month we’ve had rain on 14 out of 18 days. Maybe I’m be happier if I grew rice for a living, or was responsible for maintaining a tropical forest, but that’s not the case.

Just got back from being walked around the neighbourhood by the dog. I’m very impressed by an insignificant looking harness called a “walking halter”. No more tugging, or running off to visit the fences (I’m trying hard to control my behaviour in public these days). The dog and the man, in perfect harmony.

Oh, for the days when backing up your data meant writing down some telephone numbers on the back of a used envelope. The real reason why so many people work without a parachute is that it takes too long to copy all the stuff we collect on our computer hard drives.
