My XO is bilingual
Just got back from being walked around the neighbourhood by the dog. I’m very impressed by an insignificant looking harness called a “walking halter”. No more tugging, or running off to visit the fences (I’m trying hard to control my behaviour in public these days). The dog and the man, in perfect harmony.
Seriously, I was a firm believer in choke chains, but this works much better and doesn’t appear to stress her ladyship in the least. Why didn’t they have these when I was learning to walk (instead of that body harness that made me feel like a trapeze artist)? Another point; what goes with certain dogs that we passed coming across as invisible? Not even a sideways glance (OK, I always look, but this isn’t about ME, now is it?)
This afternoon was extremely quiet at the office, due to the start of vacation for the majority. I had “guard duty” which comes down to doing my normal job, without anyone else needing me. Time to turn on the OLPC-XO, Irish Moss, and see if the long discussion I’ve been following on one of the forums has any substance.
Some months ago, eBay sent an 8 GB SDHC card my way. With the addition of a USB drive and some careful typing of scripts, my little machine now speaks a common dialect of Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) as well as Sugar. The setup required most of the afternoon, with no false starts since I’ve read the 30-odd pages of conversation already. For anyone else who is tempted, remember to download and keep a copy of your “security key”. Do not insert the SD card until the script instructs you to do so. Be patient and watch for typos. That’s it; that’s all. Almost as easy as installing Linux Mint elsewhere. I wonder…
