Worm, beware! The robin is afoot! Spotted my first red predator this morning, although I may have heard one last evening. In any case, that’s the sign that spring is also afoot. Better to trust nature than something as constructed as a calendar.

Brought the loaner dog home for the evening. She was shorn, in the last day or two, and I detect a change. Not as assertive, without her winter curls. I wonder if dogs have that sense of self-image? I mean, they see themselves as completely matched against the largest and the smallest examples of their species, but the simple act of removing fur seems to bring an uneasy calm into the house. Our main dog is already both short of hair and short on nerve, so I can’t test this easily.

I wasn’t sure. Was I “their best friend”, or “the object of their attention” for these two hungry beasties. Seems that I spent the day under watchful eyes, just in case there might be food involved. A bit more, and I’d be guilty of paranoia.

One more reason (for me) to avoid upgrading to Win8: sound drivers. Put part of the afternoon towards hooking up a headset with microphone on a nondescript Dell. Should have been Plug and Play. In the background, our newest gadget is busily churning. Can’t tell you much more, yet, but if the illustrations hold true we should have some warm bread for bed. Magical.

Hard beds and cold rooms remind me of an earlier time. To revisit the uncomfortable, at my age, and be expected to pay for the privilege… Sorry, but I’m moving along.

After stating (as if it were a fact) that the new address is only “nine hours away” from the old one, we decided to test the premise. Today. And, if you limit food to an inhaled burger, it is. Only nine hours at legal highway speeds, without strong winds or other delaying factors.

A long time ago, (over two dog lifetimes), I needed a solid point of attachment around the place. A long steel T-bar, cut in two and driven deep into the ground with an X profile, served through the best efforts of those two dogs.
