Dodgy driving

From now on, when I need a phrase to describe dodgy driving in the winter, I’ll use “only two hours from town”. Covering a multitude of conditions, and drivers. Like that guy in the truck that went sideways each time he accelerated. Or the “Star Wars” light show whenever high beams were required.

Not even real coffee

Spent a few minutes in the wonderful world of Jer In His Car.  Not the real name of the show, of course. In truth, I’m not even sure they had real coffee. This is the world of TV, and all of the coffee was wonderful, episode after episode. That’s not even plausible. I say that as a purist, who pulls his own shots in the kitchen and then rarely touches the stuff outside of my comfort zone.

With all the comforts of home

You want to know what is better than spending the day in your car? Getting to your destination!

I’m home, after a fortnight away. Happily. I don’t have that lust to voyage that so many brag about. Perhaps it’s genetic. Anyhow, when the car pulled up in our driveway, and I went inside with the first load of luggage, I was a “happy camper”; no tent involved. We stayed in three different provinces, tasted food and cold temperatures in five. Managed to get where we wanted to be without major incidents of “lost in the woods”. Kept the feet dry.

Winding down the travel clock

A final rest day, in the big city. Even the dog senses that travel time starts at sunrise. We stayed inside, again; several short tours around the trees in the parking area followed by long periods of, well, rest.

In the absence of anything

Still too cold for anything fun, says me. The ice wind has been present for the whole of this trip. Now stretching into two weeks, or a whole new year if you prefer. I miss my infloor heating.

When a freezer becomes a chair

When we left to spend time in the local furniture store, my expectations were simple. I wanted to know what options were available, should the return home reveal a miracle. Something akin to “busted freezer not d.o.a.”. Instead, we now have a new armchair.

Sit while the world rolls by

A succinct summary of the day: the car started, so we drove until dark. What else can I add? We had a destination, and we arrived in the allotted time period.

According to my Pepsi-meter, it is cold

We have entered, officially, the dreaded “Oh crap it’s cold” phase of this season. Until now, things were still acceptable, but this evening the Pepsi thermometer went past slushy to solid. -26C and dropping. We fervently hope that the car battery will prove “winter tough” tomorrow morning.

Name the estate

Might be the day for bargains, but I remained indifferent. No crawling the mall or even consultng the online deals. Part of it comes from a realization that delivery might be rapid; I prefer to BE there when the courier rolls in and parks.

Here for the meal

Yesterday we partied. Today we eat (ate). Headed back to the big house around noon, and spent the afternoon preparing supper for a possible thirty faces. Haven’t seen the official count, but that sounds about right.
